On Saturday we were pouring our wine at a party thrown by our local butcher/baker/delicatessen, Monsieur Delmas, to celebrate the 90th birthday of his mother, Mamie Rose. Cote à Cote is a wonderful family run shop which would be mobbed in any upmarket high street in the UK. In our village its busy every day with locals buying baguettes, cheeses, meat and, of course, wine. In the holiday season visitors stand in line and marvel at how lucky we locals are.
To be asked by M.Delmas to provide our wine for his 300 guests was a real honour. To pour it for the whole village including many winemakers was quite frankly terrifying. Luckily we were so warmly welcomed and so busy that there wasn’t time to think about it.
Of course in rural France as in any rural community you have to be at least 3rd or 4th generation to be truly accepted but surrounded by happy neighbours drinking clos rocailleux wines on Saturday we felt very at home. Thank you Family Delmas.
